Back Story
Over 95% of the planet surface is covered in water. The few islands that exist are the jutting peaks of enormous underwater mountains, which are volcanic in origin. The plate tectonics operate at an increased rate relative to planet Earth and is a major contributing factor to Quarus' land mass to water ratio. Almost all of the planet's population exists in the watery depths, but a few species re-surface regularly.
In 2302, Earth's leading scientists identified a previously overlooked wormhole. The first space probe, dubbed the Magellan 001, was launched in the same year. It brought back invaluable information about the Libra star system and identified Quarus as a "super-Earth". Ten years later, a crew of twenty space voyagers was sent to explore the possibility of settling on Quarus.
However, a gust of solar wind nudged the ship off-course and brought the voyagers to the planet Folossa in the Acidophilus star system. Only the bravest humans participated in subsequent journeys-- the majority decided to remain on Earth.
